Report: GTA 6 dev build exceeds 200GB in size, retail version likely smaller
IT Home, October 13 news: With just over a month to go before the release of GTA 6, a new report claims the game could take up enormous storage space on PS5 and Xbox consoles. The GTA 6 Info account on X stated that the development version used by CyberLeek to record the leaked gameplay footage exceeds 200GB in size.
According to reports, the leaker also claimed that if the market cap of their $CYBERLEEK meme coin reaches $30 million (IT Home note: roughly 201 million yuan at current exchange rates), they would release the full, playable development version of over 200GB.
Of course, a development build and the final retail version of the game are completely different things. Development builds contain a large amount of extra assets and tools that won't be included in the officially released version, and game studios typically optimize texture assets before launch, so the actual download size of the official version will most likely be much smaller. A 192GB Rockstar archive that surfaced in September this year is a good example—it consisted mostly of GTA 5 development materials, containing far more content than the game itself.
Rockstar has yet to announce the official file size of GTA 6. For reference, the PS5 version of GTA 5 takes up about 95GB, while the enhanced PC version requires 105GB of space.
Rob Nelson of Rockstar North also confirmed in August that GTA 6's map is roughly twice the size of GTA 5's, so a significant increase in game size is all but inevitable either way. That said, any information bearing the CyberLeek name should be treated with caution. Over the past few weeks, various fake versions ranging from 113GB to 145GB in size have been circulating on torrent sites, some of which even come bundled with malware.
GTA 6 will launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, with pre-loading beginning November 12. The physical disc edition only includes a download code, so all players will need to download the game. It is recommended that everyone clear out enough hard drive space in advance and wait for Rockstar to announce the exact storage figures.
