Former GTA 6 Developer Pours Cold Water on It: Porting to Switch 2 Simply Isn't Worth It

Recently, Jérémy Hartvick, a former employee who participated in the development of GTA 6 and left Rockstar Games in 2020, discussed in an interview with Kiwi Talkz the possibility of the game coming to the Nintendo Switch 2. He believes that from a current business perspective, developing a native version specifically for the Switch 2 might "make no sense," but this does not mean it is technically absolutely impossible.

Hartvick explained that GTA series players usually prefer platforms that can deliver better performance. If the development team needs to spend months on extensive optimization to make GTA 6 run on the Switch 2, while also making compromises in visual quality and performance, then whether this investment is worthwhile becomes a question to consider.

However, he also acknowledged that running GTA 6 on the Switch 2 is not entirely impossible, and mentioned game streaming as an alternative. Running the game via the cloud can reduce the computational burden on the console itself, but the actual experience still depends on the network environment and related service support.

On the other hand, Rockstar has always been skilled at tapping into the performance potential of console hardware, and the Switch 2 is continuously expanding its third-party game lineup. Therefore, at this stage, one cannot conclude that GTA 6 will not come to Nintendo's new console based solely on the judgment of a single former developer.

Currently, Rockstar has not officially announced a Switch 2 version of GTA 6.
