GTA 6 Has Dedicated Writers for Pedestrian Dialogue, Building a Lively, Authentic Game World

GTA6 developers recently introduced the division of writing labor for GTA6's urban environments: Los Angeles has a dedicated team writing pedestrian dialogue, while writers in New York, Los Angeles, and London handle advertising and comedy content. These arrangements aim to let the sounds and text of the streets together form the game world.

GTA6 Has Dedicated Staff for Pedestrian Dialogue, Crafting a Realistic and Vivid Game World

Rupert Humphries, Senior Vice President of Narrative for GTA6, said in an interview with LOVE magazine that the team specifically assigned writers and creative staff to handle content typically called 'background noise.' In his view, this content is also part of what players experience when immersed in the game world.

James Horton, Writing Director of the open world, said the investment in such details for this title is greater than previously imagined. He hopes that when players run through busy streets, they can hear fragments of different conversations; if they stop to listen closely to one of them, the dialogue should also feel credible.

Horton also believes that foreground and background depend on what the player is focusing on at the moment, and the non-player characters encountered on the streets should be like characters with their own stories. As for how this dialogue will be presented in the game, the actual content remains the definitive reference.
